FETA 2025/ Video Art “Sổng Chuồng”: A journey to bring video art closer to the public
Launched in 2022, the FETA/ Video Art “Sổng Chuồng” is a project organized by the Center for Art Patronage and Development (APD), initiated and curated by visual artist Tran Luong. The project marks a new direction for video art in Vietnam. Instead of being limited to traditional “white cube” gallery spaces, it brings video art into everyday life
Art in the flow of everyday life
The project was created with the belief that although media art is growing rapidly and more young artists are turning to video as a medium, the infrastructure for displaying video art and reaching wider audiences has not kept pace. In the past, video art was mostly shown in white-walled galleries, attracting maily visual art lovers. But FETA/ Video Art “Sổng Chuồng” goes in the opposite direction. Without aiming to make art instantly mainstream, the project quietly introduces video art into shared workspaces, shopping centers and public lobbies, spaces where video works “escape” the confines of the gallery and enter busy urban life.
The public, not intentionally seeking art, may be drawn in within just a few seconds by a striking frame. The project aims to cultivate a new visual habit: art is no longer something to seek out, it becomes an unexpected moment of encounter on a busy city street.

The project is led by Tran Luong, a renowned visual artist, independent curator, and pioneer in building critical spaces for contemporary art in VietNam. He is a co-founder of Nha San Studio, Hanoi’s first experimental art space, and has curated numerous international exhibitions, including the Vietnam Pavilion at the 2015 Venice Biennale. FETA is a natural continuation of his longstanding commitment to curatorial and community – based art practices, aiming to break contemporary at free from closed-off exhibition spaces and bring it closer to the public.

FETA 2025 brings together five emerging artists exploring their own visual languages: Trinh Ngan Hanh, Pham Hoang, Khoi Nguyen, Do Vu Minh Ngoc and Thao Bui. Using video as their primary medium, these artists delve into themes of personal consciousness, urban memory, cultural transitions and human interaction with the living environment. Their works are highly abstract, utilizing motion, visual rhythm, and spatial composition to immerse viewers in an open-ended state of observation.
