The film is highly acclaimed for its exquisite visual artistry, featuring serene frames reminiscent of early 20th-century Indochinese paintings, combined with Tran Anh Hung’s signature visual storytelling style. Despite sparking debates regarding its representation of Vietnamese identity, The Scent of Green Papaya remains one of the most influential works in both Vietnamese and international cinema of the 1990s.
